In 2017, Jon Ossoff was a 30 year old documentary filmmaker wondering what he could do to help his community in the wake of Trump’s 2016 victory. A few months later, he was the name on every political experts’ lips and on every liberal aunts’ Facebook.
WHERE did Jon Ossoff come from? And HOW was he getting all of this cash?
The short answer:
Highly targeted fundraising and mobilization ads
Aggressive email acquisition efforts
Harnessing split fundraising efforts across the Democratic ecosystem to improve his name recognition and supplement fundraising
(And obviously, a very smart and charismatic candidate)
Running in first Congressional election since Donald Trump won the Presidency, Jon Ossoff had a unique opportunity to emerge as the young, hopeful anecdote to Trump.
We sprung into action to capitalize on the moment and put Jon on the map, raising $23 million and setting the then-record for the most expensive House race in American history.
Our pioneering approach gave his campaign something candidates rarely have — a surplus of cash. Every single organizing effort, rally, and event was suddenly possible. There was no picking and choosing what kind of outreach they could afford. They could afford all of it.
Even though Jon lost in that 2017 runoff, a star was born. When he decided to run for Senate in 2020, my team was ready to help him cross the finish line. My team tapped into his name recognition, re-opened his email program, and turned on that fundraising faucet.
$162.6 million later, a Senate Majority, and another fundraising record later, I finally got to say congratulations to Senator Jon Ossoff of Georgia.
